Ixomia

Reviews
"IXOMIA: an imaginary town. IXOMIA: an entertainingly odd, and oddly entertaining, play by Eric Sanders.... cleverly staged, funny... In its crude tomfoolery and brightly fake, local color, it's a bit like Spamalot; in absurdity, it suggests Tzara; in spirit it recalls Futurism.... Mostly it's dreamlike. Bits of reality collide with absurdities. The former make the characters interesting; the latter make us laugh.... Sparkplug performances, fizzy lighting and staging, and rich sound design make the show a treat for the eye and ear."
- Jon Sobel, Blogcritics.org
"Likened by the playwright to an Our Town on acid, IXOMIA tells the tale of a small town visited by Satan on the eve of the first democratic elections.... something much more unusual than the democratic voting process is visited upon IXOMIA. Death, illness, random acts of destruction and unspeakable atrocities overtake the cornfields in a lively yet coherent production directed by Stephen Brackett.... peppered with witty one-liners and decidedly deliberate over the top machinations."
- Kessa De Santis, ELJ All Arts Annex
"Meeting with Eric Sanders today, he wrote IXOMIA which just played at the Crown Point Festival. He demonstrated absolute, total indifference to the staging and design when he wrote it. I read it, loved it, told him 'I have no idea what to do with this.' The production at the festival worked, his director and design team solved a lot of it."
- John Clancy, Obie Award-winning Director
"IXOMIA written by emerging playwright Eric Sanders and directed by the always working Stephen Brackett was a ton of fun. An interesting piece directed with great flair and style by Mr. Brackett and acted with tons of verve by a group of soon to be discovered downtown artists (including Jake Margolin). I think this piece has a broader life elsewhere."
- Bixby Elliot, Playwright/Blogger
"Both films help to augment the evening's play, Eric Sanders's IXOMIA (also being performed Saturday evening), a story about the apocalypse descending on a middle-American town during an election."
- S. James Snyder, the New York Sun
